The IIS Admin Service service terminated with service-specific error 2149648394 (0x8021080A)

The IIS Admin Service service terminated with service-specific error 2149648394 (0x8021080A) – You may meet this error when IIS Admin Service was thrown away after restoring a Windows Server or just after DSKCHK (disk check) OR For any reason like windows update.
I decided to write this tutorial when it happens to lose my IIS Admin server. What happened was that one Windows server was attacked by a virus and I had to restore it from a recent backup. In the backup procedure there is DSKCHK part and then the image is saved.

I saw the DSKCHK processes running, and something got wrong on the NTFS volume During the ‘repair’ process (as you probably know) a number of files may become corrupt, and the Metabase.xml – the core of the IIS Admin service â€“ was damaged.
Now, since the backup itself is damaged, the only way of resolving the IIS Admin Service service terminatederror is to use the files that Windows stores itself.
The next image is the key to the issue resolution:

On your server Under C:\\Windows\\System32\\Inetsrv ™ and you\”ll find folder called \”History\” folder. Hopefully inside you will recent backups of the Metabase.XML and MBSchema.XML files. Before continuing with the next steps make sure you have backups of the existing Metabase.xml and MBSchema.xml from C:\\Windows\\System32\\Inetsrv first!

The next step will be to rename the most recent Metabase.XML file, and then the most recent MBSchema.XML file. Copy and paste each of these to the C:\\Windows\\System32\\Inetsrv ™ folder (one folder up).
The last step is to reset the IIS service so go click on Start -> Run ->™ type there cmd ™ and then a IISRESET™ in the command prompt.

  1. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>iisreset

  2. Attempting stop…
  3. Internet services successfully stopped
  4. Attempting start…
  5. Internet services successfully restarted

It worked for me, and I hope it will work for you to resolve this error: The IIS Admin Service service terminated with service-specific error 2149648394 (0x8021080A).

3 things has to be done for better performance

Tips from Goutham: 3 things has to be done for better performance: By default, XP displays extra graphic objects for menu items which can slow down your display. 1. To turn off these selectively... Right click My Computer Select Properties Click Advanced tab Under Performance, click Settings button To turn them all off, select Adjust for best performance Preference is to leave them all off except for Show shadows under mouse pointer and Show window contents while dragging 2. To speed up the display of the Start Menu Items, turn off the menu shadow. Right click open area of the Desktop Select Properties Click Appearance tab Click Effects button Uncheck Show shadows under menus 3. You can increase system performance by loading more of the system into memory. DO NOT attempt this with less then 512MBs of ram. Your system will become unstable. Click Start Click Run Enter regedit Click OK Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Session Manager Memory Management Double cli

The difference between DNS and NDS

Novell Directory Services(NDS) - Novell Directory Services (NDS) is a popular software product for managing access to computer resources and keeping track of the users of a  network , such as a company's  intranet , from a single point of administration. Using NDS, a network administrator can set up and control a  database  of users and manage them using a  directory  with an easy-to-use graphical user interface ( GUI ). Users of computers at remote locations can be added, updated, and managed centrally. Applications can be distributed electronically and maintained centrally. NDS can be installed to run under  Windows NT , Sun Microsystem's Solaris, and IBM's  OS/390  as well as under Novell's own  NetWare  so that it can be used to control a multi-platform network. NDS is generally considered an industry  benchmark  against which other products, such as Microsoft's Active Directory, must compete. Lucent Technologies plans to integrate NDS into its own QIP product
